70 new “Solaris Urbino” buses are suppled under the contract signed in 2013, which provides for the delivery of 175 buses. With this batch, the number of the buses delivered under the contract reached   140, but the remaining 35 buses will be received by the year 2019.

As compared to the previous models supplied to Riga, the new ones are supplied with sockets for charging electronic devices. These buses, as well as those that are still to be delivered, have a modernized body, which is reflected in the vehicle’s design. The manufacturers have a new concept for the body’s structure,  which makes the bus lighter as compared to the  previous models. Thanks to these improvements, the buses have become more economical, as the fuel consumption has also decreased.

The new buses are equipped with: removable electrically driven platform (for disabled persons), heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, integrated on-board information system, a set of operating materials and spare parts of naturally wearable parts for a distance of 150 000 km, and a set of special tools. The extra equipment provides for an automatic fire extinguishing system in engine chamber, driving dynamics regulation system, interior LCD displays and information and communication equipment for information transmission.

Representatives of “Solaris Bus&Coach” have completed all the necessary formality at the Road Traffic Safety Directorate, so that the buses could participate in traffic, but experts of the manufacturer and   “Rīgas satiksmes” have completed the testing of buses successfully to put them into service.

“Rīgas satiksme” serves 56 bus routes and carries 6 million passengers per month on the average. “Rīgas satiksme” runs a fleet of 400 buses of different types.
